ROAD TRIP - US HWY 50

The Loneliest Road in North America

The Loneliest Road in America by Life magazine in July 1986. The name was intended as a pejorative, but Nevada officials seized on it as a marketing slogan. The name originates from large desolate areas traversed by the route, with few or no signs of civilization. The highway crosses several large desert valleys separated by numerous mountain ranges towering over the valley floors, in what is known as the Basin and Range province of the Great Basin.

 RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Tri Tip Roast

The Tri-Tip, otherwise known as the "Santa Maria steak" is known for it's full flavour, low fat content, and comparatively low cost to cuts of beef. Also great for sandwiches!

INGREDIENTS

1 tri-tip roast

Traeger Regular BBQ Sauce

Traeger Prime Rib Rub

PREPARATION

Marinade the tri-tip in Traeger Regular BBQ sauce overnight in refrigerator.

Remove tri-tip from marinade, and lightly season with Traeger Prime Rib Rub.

Start your Traeger* on smoke with lid open for 5 minutes to get started, then place tri-tip on grill for 4 to 5 hours on smoke.

Remove tri-tip from grill and place in aluminum foil foil with 1/2 cup water.

Close aluminum foil and adjust digital controller to 350 degrees.

Place back on the grill for 45 minutes.

Remove from grill and let rest for 15 minutes. Eat and enjoy!

TIP OF THE MONTH

LIGHTING APPLIANCES FOR THE FIRST TIME

When you are lighting your appliances for the first time of the season, light the stove top burners first.

This will help to bleed the air out of the lines and then it won't take so long to light the fridge or the hot water tank.

 TECH TIP OF THE MONTH

LOADING REFRIGERATOR

Tips for Loading Your Refrigerator

Precool the refrigerator by starting it the night before a trip. This should be done with no food in the compartments. Wait until the refrigerator is thoroughly cold before placing food inside.

Precool food in your home refrigerator rather than trying to cool warm food with your RV refrigerator. Proper refrigeration requires free air circulation within the compartments.

Don’t overload the refrigerator and don’t cover the shelves with paper or large containers that block airflow. To reduce frost buildup, cover stored liquids and moist foods, and don’t leave the door open too long. Always wipe moisture off the outside of containers before putting them in refrigerator. This will help prevent frost buildup, which consumes cooling power.

Periodically clean out the burner unit. LP-gas has a garlic or rotten-egg odor that becomes especially strong as the cylinders or tanks run low. This scent attracts spiders, which will build nests in the burner. Clean out the refrigerators roof-exhaust vent. Bird’s nests, leaves, twigs, or other debris can lodge there, choking the refrigerator’s efficiency. A spider-web brush works very well for this.

You may need to install a fan in the compartment behind the refrigerator to speed the removal of hot air. This will significantly enhance the performance of your refrigerator. These fans can be operated in the 12-volt DC mode, and should be mounted above the coil rather than on the floor for superior airflow.
